This is a dynamic, interactive hands-on workshop that will focus on using various sensory-based techniques and strategies combined with creative ideas to be used with your pediatric population (early intervention to school age). This workshop is coupled with a lecture and practical and is geared why and how stimulating the "body sensory systems" to influence self regulation for improved behavior and learning.  Explore various ways sensory-based equipment may be utilize to address various types of sensory processing deficits.  Experience sensory-motor experiences during hands-on participation practical lab.  Bring your yoga mat and/or towel! Today you are your student on your caseload!!  Bring your case studies. 
Participants will receive certificate of completion after meeting criteria (full attendance and complete learner survey)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES   
 Following this course, participants will: 

1. Identify and differentiate between sensory systems 

2. Identify and differentiate between sensory processing deficits

3.  Identify various methods of using sensory-based equipment and techniques to facilitate and match children sensory needs

4. List sensory-motor based interventions that can be immediately used for home based therapy,  in a clinic or class.

5 Identify ways to grade activities up or down

6. Identify ways to facilitate fun for a stronger therapist-patient relationship to entice the child to want to come for therapy.

7. List a large arsenal of motivating and fun Sensory Diet Home Activities to prescribe to families to make faster progress with your children


Presenters Alex Lopiccolo, COTA, Paula Stewart, MS, OTR/L and Christine Grant, MS, OTR/L.  Alex struggled with Sensory Processing Disorders.  Growing up he knew that he wanted to help others dealing with the same obstacles. He is one of the most inspiring and creative clinicians working with children with sensory processing deficits. Many may have seen him on You-Tube representing Sensory Digest!  Paula Stewart, MS, OTR/L and Christine Grant, MS, OTR/L owners of Occupational Therapy Kidz are both dynamic SIPTs certified OT clinicians with over 18 years of experience which includes the assessment and treatment of infants and young children with various conditions including Autism, PDD, Sensory Processing Dysfunction, ADD and other developmental disorders, etc. TCS presenter(s) do not accept any form of cash advertising, sponsorship, items of monetary value or any other form of compensation regarding products or services discussed.

CONDUCTING A PEDIATRIC EVALUATION:
From Birth to Five (PDMS-2 & AIMS)

The Focus is on how to conduct a pediatric evaluation which includes the use of the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales (PDMS-2) fine motor portion AND the Alberta Infant Motor Scales (AIMS).  Experience hands-on extensive training in how to administer, score and analyze young children in Early Intervention, CPSE and CSE. The AIMS can be used for children 2 weeks to 18 months as well as for significantly involved older children.  This workshop is not just for OTs!  This workshop also covers a review of the central nervous system and its connection with sensory processing deficits, reflex integration and overall motor skills.  We will cover the parent interview process: the what and why questions and how it impacts your analysis of your child!  How do you conduct on evaluation when the child just can't focus or sit still.  This workshop includes a lab, videos, case studies.  It also covers how to write an evaluation report!

A Workshop to increase awareness and understand contributing factors in the behaviors of children with Developmental Delays which may include but not limited to:  Hyperactivity, Poor Focus, Difficulty Learning, Poor Eye Contact, Poor Interaction, Difficulty in School, Difficulty with Play, Interacting with others, etc. What are Sensory Processing issues and how may Nutrition/Food allergies play a role?  OT For Kidz welcomes Dr. Sherr from Northport Wellness Center!

Walk-Ins are Welcome but better to RSVP to secure your seat.
