Occupational Therapy for Kidz
(OT for KIDZ)
A comprehensive private sensory based pediatric center who takes pride in our commitment to help children and their families to optimize their quality of life. We work with children with physical, learning, developmental and other disabilities which include children diagnosed with Autism, PDD, ADHD, Developmental Delay, Failure to Thrive, etc. Sometimes a child may not have yet been given a diagnosis. Here at OT for Kidz children can be seen as early as infancy.
We are dedicated to understanding the brain's functions and its affects on a child’s motor, behavior and learning abilities. We provide therapeutic services that help developmental issues so that children can thrive physically, social-emotionally and academically as we use a brain-based analytical approach. We are trained to understand the brain and how it works. So, when we evaluate or provide intervention for a child, our most precious jewel, who is struggling in school or at home, our focus is to understand how that child’s brain is functionally working and how it’s affecting his or her functional development.
Our Mission is simple. To treat the "whole child".
We use a series of functional neuro-developmental strategies to evaluate your child as well as use standardized testing tools. Our model for evaluation and treatment follows the basic understanding that it's the brain that controls what one can and cannot do, that the brain is plastic which means there is potential to change and that the majority of how the brain develops is from the bottom to the top of the brain. Therefore we use a bottom to top approach in our evaluation to determine at what level of the central nervous system is there a processing breakdown occurring in your child and ultimately impacting upon your child's functional developmental skills. The ability for sensory information to efficiently travel (get processed) through the central nervous is essential and necessary which affects the development of all skills (motor, language, social, cognitive). Using this approach enables us to develop the most effective treatment and recommendations for your child.
Parent education is a crucial component and they are expected to be part of the team. Because of our model of how we conduct evaluation, provide treatment and how it makes a difference, a high percentage of our clients are from referrals which is our ultimate compliment!

Visual perceptual processing is related to more deeper internal body senses one of which is vestibular processing which gives us the internal concept of position in space. It also helps you to understand how objects are related to each other in space, it is important for success in math, science and the early development of writing and reading skills.
Part of processing language is auditory processing abilities which helps develop the ability to follow instructions, read and interact appropriately with others.
Perceptual motor skills is how one organize, identify, and interpret sensory information while simultaneously coordinating muscles. This is related to more deeper internal body senses one of which is proprioception processing. Perceptual motor impacts all motor skills which include fine motor coordination, an important component of academic activities such as handwriting which includes pencil grasp, formation of symbols (i.e. shapes, letters, etc) and appropriate spacing between letters and words, This also includes cutting, tracing, copying, and manipulating small objects.

Our multiple state of the art sensory gyms are therapeutically designed to treat different types of sensory processing disorders of different ages (birth-12 years old). Our gyms and fine motor rooms were established for the purpose to make therapy effective as well as fun. Here at OT For Kidz children think they are playing which is an integral part of providing a sensory-rich experience along with the expertise of our clinicians to provide "appropriate" strategies with the "just-right" intensity for your child.
